A light non-lined linen summer jacket I bought from a large clothing store range called Marks and Spencer twenty years ago, back when I weighed 270lb. It has been altered by my wife Susan a couple of times as the lbs have been lost (I now weigh 175lb). It protects my arms and neck from the sun and sees off summer chills. A truly wonderful massed produced jacket.🐰

That sounds ideal, and how great that Susan can alter! Altering down so many sizes is tricky, and lots involved. Good on her. My best to you both.

My daughter would love you for a mum, she adores jackets! Sadly her old mum can't sew, only crochet, she has asked me for a poncho though.

Crocheting is a skill I don't have. A crocheted poncho will be lovely!

Lovely table for your sewing! Brava to you for doing all that moving and shifting before it arrived!

I am rather fond of canvas smock like jackets that are 3/4 length with pockets. In the summer they are handy for gardening and the rest of the year I wear them like an apron indoors. Just about everything I wear has pockets! Every once in a while I spend an afternoon adding side seam pockets to various store bought pants and tops. In a 2 story house, pockets really help with keeping my glasses and phone with me.

Oh yes, I'm all about the pockets! A few years ago, I added pockets to everything i could and got rid of the rest. I refuse to buy a dress, skirt, pants, or shorts with no pockets. I like shirts with pockets too. That canvas smock sounds ideal. Is is like the French work jacket in construction?

I had to go look at my jackets! LOL Two are really just oversized shirts that came with 1 large breast pocket. I added side seam pockets to both of those 'jackets' and they have about 4" side slits for easy movement. My favorite indoor jacket is like a painter's smock but not quite so roomy or long. Off-white canvas with brass buttons and studs at pocket corners. A V shaped yoke at the back with a hidden inverted pleat under it at the center. Nice slanting yoke at the front with large patch pockets at the hips and 6 inch side slits. Sleeves have cuffs which I usually roll up. Picked it up for a song at Penney's a million years ago! Would love to have another. Keep meaning to scrap it for pattern pieces, but can't get my heart into it.
