Last year, or maybe the year before I made myself a fancy hat. I wore it Saturday night to a concert. I made the entire thing from turquoise tulle I had originally bought to cover a gardening bed. What was left over from covering the planted seeds became a hat. I created "feathers" from the tulle and a bit of ribbon. I twisted a length to go around my head and tie in a big bow. I attached the feathers by hand. When I made the hat, it was to go with a costume I created to do to a play dressed as Mrs. Peacock from Clue. Apparently I didn't take pictures of the hat or the costume at the time. Anyway, it was great fun to wear it then, and to wear it again last night
.
I had put the hat away in a hat box. When I went to put it away again last night, I discovered a plaid tweed cloche I had made as a mock-up for a brown velvet cloche I made for a friend. I'll be wearing that plaid cloche now! I do have to finish it around the inside of the brim, but that's easy enough. I'll just add a grosgrain ribbon trim
.
Meanwhile, I am working on sewing a new jacket for my daughter. I had hoped to finish it by her birthday, but that didn't happen. Luckily I had purchased a few gifts for her. This jacket is one I had a pattern for, which I used to make my first Chanel jacket. She liked the jacket and the pockets, but she wanted it to zip up and have a hood. So I've made alterations to the pattern. So far, I've sewn the back, the sides, the front pieces and attached the pockets. I've cut out the hood, purchased the zipper.
When I cut out the hood, I don't know what I was thinking! I just cut fabric and lining in a hood shape, giving no thought whatsoever as to whether it would fit the jacket for attaching. Ha! It didn't match up at all. I've had to cut out extra pieces and attach them to the original. That's finished now, so next will be finishing up the jacket, then adding the zipper, and the string for the hood. I didn't line this jacket, so that's a bit less work I had/have to do. I did cut out lining for the hood, but it's the same as the original fabric, and that's done
.I still have to finish my newsboy cap. That won't take long, but I feel compelled to finish my daughter's jacket before I finish a project for myself.
With everything else on my plate, it's a wonder I'm finding to sew at all. But I am, and I will persist. I find it immensely satisfying to create wearable clothing.
What do you find immensely satisfying? What is your creative outlet (or outlets)? And most importantly: do you wear hats?

Sandra, I do enjoy seeing these items that you create! I do like the fabric for your daughter's jacket. In the summer I often grab a baseball cap when running to the mailbox, if it is raining. I actually have a few baseball style caps, My favorite is an official navy NASA cap. Being more than a bit of a space cadet it seems the right cap for me! :-) I also have a simple brimmed 'crushable' hat that I bought from the Vermont Country Store catalog some years ago. It is surprisingly warm and feels good in most weather. Being a bus rider, it is nice to have handy, when I don't know what the weather is going to be like while waiting for the bus.
Like the plaid cloche. Looks like it will suit your face to perfection. I am a hatman. Must post some pics. What you do with your hands has to be good for dexterity at our age. Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated.🐰
