Did you see this war coming? I didn't, but I don't know why I didn't. Everything he promised he wouldn't do, he has done or will do.
He's killing us.
Saturday night I attending the Portland Gay Men's Chorus concert. It was joyous, touching, happy, sad, delightful. I'm privileged to have been able to see these dedicated people celebrate our lives in the midst of our rights being snatched back.
Our trans youth have always been at risk. Now they are being denied the right to medical care. Our trans military are being forced to leave. The dedicated suicide hotline for trans people has been dismantled.
We have to protect each other. And we have to resist. We have to fight back in whatever methods we can.
We must practice self-care, and look in on our family and neighbors who are at risk. And with nuclear war hanging over our heads, aren't we ALL at risk?
My newsletter is about finding joy. Some days I really have to dig for it. So I look to nature. The green leaves, the flowering bushes, the roses climbing my fences. I find joy in watching my cat play, the chickens forage, in the bounty at the local farmer's market.
And always, I find joy in singing with the choir I've joined. Our first concert is this week. May we all be here and able to participate.
Love and peace has been my sign-off for decades. I mean it when I say it, when I write it. I send love and peace with every opportunity.
Whatever you do, however you do it: resist, and find joy wherever and whenever you can. And spread it, if you're able.
Are you finding joy? Please share. Share anything you want, actually.
Sandra, I have just come home late from visit to the health centre to have my annual ‘oldies’ check-up, sat down whilst lunch cooks in the oven and I read you. As contradictory as it may seem I find joy in your anger and indignation.
I am with you 100% in love and solidarity.🐰
Sandra, your spirit is contagious! This is it! This is what we each can do. Say what is on our minds without being belligerent. Oh yes, we are all on the chopping block. Really, only useful white males need apply! (He goes through useful white females like toilet paper.) So look-out everyone, he is coming for you, if you don't have anything he wants. Past usefulness means nothing. As in Vets, paying in to Social Security, decades of employment, if you now can't be useful, he has no time/money for you. If you would only see things his way by just quietly dying, that would be best in his eyes.
But here's what we can do. What you are doing Sandra! Speak our mind and keep doing it. Let others know what you think is important. Whether that is Democracy, Diverse Communities, Education, Libraries, Climate, International Relationships or OUR NATIONAL PARKS AND PUBLIC LANDS ... speak up!!! Thank you Sandra for reminding me to speak up! :-)
